Ladera Ranch, CA | September 12–13, 2026
The Scholastic Series Fall Tipoff brought Southern California high school programs to OGP Ladera for a weekend of showcase action. Scope Scouting was on hand throughout the event, which featured plenty of established talent along with several underclassmen worth tracking as the high school season approaches.
Here are the Outstanding Performers from the Varsity, JV and Frosh-Soph divisions.
Varsity Outstanding Performers
Carlos Galvan (Servite) | W | 6’5″ | 2029 — 12.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 2.0 SPG, 1.3 BPG
Galvan is a versatile 6’5″ forward with good length, activity and feel for the game. He is effective around the painted area, rebounds consistently and shows the ability to make plays without having the offense run through him. Defensively, his length and anticipation allow him to disrupt passing lanes and provide some rim protection. Galvan plays with a good motor and continues to show a developing all around skill set. He looks poised for a breakout sophomore season in the Trinity League.
Cole Hawke (Newport Harbor) | W | 6’4″ | 2028 — 18.3 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 1.0 APG
Hawke is a strong, versatile 6’4″ wing with a good scoring feel. He uses his size effectively off the dribble, gets downhill and finishes through contact in the painted area. He can also stretch the floor and has the physical tools to create favorable matchups on the perimeter. Hawke’s combination of size, strength and offensive versatility makes him an intriguing 2028 prospect.
Freddie Forbes (Mater Dei) | CG | 6’4″ | 2030 — 13.0 PPG, 1.0 APG
Forbes already looks comfortable playing at the varsity level. At 6’4″, he has excellent size for a young guard and is an advanced perimeter shooter with range, a quick release and confidence shooting off the catch. He is becoming more comfortable attacking closeouts and creating off the dribble, giving him more ways to score when defenders run him off the line. Forbes should be one of the top freshmen to watch in Southern California this season.
Langston Ford (Fairmont Prep) | G/W | 6’5″ | 2027 — 12.8 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 1.0 APG, 1.0 SPG
Ford is a long, athletic guard/wing with good positional size and two way versatility. He attacks off the dribble, can make shots from the perimeter and uses his length effectively on the defensive end. His combination of size, athleticism and perimeter skill gives him intriguing versatility at the next level.
Marcus Gholar (CO Family) | F | 6’4″ | 2029 — 20.8 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 1.0 APG
Gholar is a strong, physical forward who uses his 6’4″ frame well around the painted area. He finishes through contact and consistently puts himself in position to rebound. What stands out is his patience and feel for the game. He doesn’t have to force offense to be productive. As his perimeter handle and shooting continue to develop, Gholar has the physical tools and basketball IQ to become an intriguing prospect in the 2029 class.
Micah Brown (Palm Desert) | G | 6’2″ | 2029 — 19.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.8 SPG, 1.0 BPG
Brown is a strong 6’2″ guard with good positional size and two way upside. He plays through contact, rebounds his position and uses his length and instincts effectively on the defensive end. Brown’s physical tools, production and developing offensive game make him a 2029 guard worth tracking.
Owen Hatch (Tesoro) | SG | 6’5″ | 2028 — 16.5 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 1.5 APG, 1.0 SPG
Hatch is a 6’5″ shooter with good positional size whose offensive game continues to expand. His perimeter shooting remains his calling card, but improved athleticism has made him more effective attacking closeouts and getting to the basket. He is finishing with more confidence in the painted area and becoming less reliant on his jumper to generate offense. Coming off a strong summer on the 3SSB circuit, Hatch continues to develop into an intriguing 2028 wing prospect.
Tariq Johnson (Servite) | PG | 5’10” | 2029 — 23.5 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 1.8 APG, 2.0 SPG
Johnson is a savvy lead guard who plays with excellent pace, feel and confidence. He creates separation off the dribble, gets into the painted area and has the shooting ability to keep defenders honest from the perimeter. His ability to change speeds and read the defense stands out for a young point guard. After earning Trinity League Freshman Player of the Year honors and coming off a strong summer on the 3SSB circuit, Johnson looks ready to take another step during his sophomore season.
Xavier Green (CO Family) | SG | 5’10” | 2028 — 18.8 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 1.8 APG, 3.3 SPG
Green is an aggressive scoring guard with good instincts and confidence on the offensive end. He creates off the dribble, gets into the painted area and can make shots from the perimeter. He plays with a competitive edge and is active defensively, consistently creating turnovers. Green’s ability to generate offense and impact both ends makes him a 2028 guard worth tracking.
Zain Majeed (Mater Dei) | W/F | 6’8″ | 2027 — 17.3 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 1.0 APG, 1.3 SPG
Majeed is a skilled 6’8″ forward with size, mobility and scoring versatility. He can stretch the floor, attack mismatches off the dribble and use his size to score in the painted area. He moves well for his size and does not need a high volume of touches to impact the game offensively. Majeed enters his senior season as a proven college prospect and a key piece for Mater Dei.
